Capturing opportunities in food e-commerce and digital labelling – Agri-Food Tech Expo Asia 2022, Part of the Singapore International Agri-Food Week (SIAW)

Agri-Food Tech Expo Asia is a strategic platform that evolves with the industry and is shaped by leaders and experts to explore strategies and solutions for sustainable systems and production to build a vibrant Agri-Food hub in Asia. Among the topics discussed, there were two that present significant opportunities – food e-commerce and digital labelling.

The food e-commerce landscape has dramatically evolved in the last few years, fuelled by the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, rapid technological developments, several social drivers such as increasingly accelerated lifestyles, as well as economic drivers such as the rising middle class particularly in Asia.

With increasing regulatory requirements and consumer demand for greater transparency in food products, digital labelling is gaining tractions as an alternative method to communicate and store information related to food products.

Cheng Wei Swee, Senior Manager of AlphaBeta (part of Access Partnership), participated in a panel discussion moderated by Jiang YiFan, Associate Director of Science & Regulatory Affairs, Food Industry Asia.

Other panellists included Chong Nyet Chin, Director, Food Safety & Quality, NTUC Fairprice Co-operative and Chee Yap, Executive Director, APAC Innovation & Development, Sealed Air Corporation. This session discussed about the policy and consumer trends in Asia, the opportunities and challenges faced in the adoption of food e-commerce and digital labelling, as well as recommendations on the collaborative efforts and stakeholders’ actions that will be needed to realise the full potential.
