Reaping the Benefits of Industry 4.0 in Cambodia: Discussing productivity benefits and the importance of skills development
On Thursday, April 8, Dr Fraser Thompson and Ms Genevieve Lim from AlphaBeta shared key findings from a recent report launched with the ADB, “Reaping the Benefits of Industry 4.0 through Skills Development in Cambodia”, at a webinar organised by the ADB in Cambodia. These findings touched on the potential productivity benefits that Industry 4.0 technologies pose for Cambodia’s economy – with a focus on two industries, garments manufacturing and tourism – and the implications such technologies could have for the demand and supply of skills in the country.
Opening remarks for this event was shared by H.E. Dr. Phan Phalla, Secretary of State, Ministry of Economic and Finance, Ms. Sunniya Durrani-Jamal, ADB Country Director for Cambodia, and Mr Brajesh Panth, Chief of the ADB’s Education Sector Group. The event was also attended by a number of prominent stakeholders from the government industry and training sectors, and there was a rich discussion around the challenges and opportunities faced by Cambodia in its Industry 4.0 journey, and the policy interventions needed to engender the necessary upskilling for its workforce.
