On 2 February, techUK invited Sofia Tirini (Policy Manager of Market Access at Access Partnership) to participate in a webinar called “Through the lens of the metaverse” as part of the Exploring the Future of Work Series. The objective of this series was to better understand the potential impact that the metaverse might have on the way we work today.
This webinar touched upon different topics, including how virtual spaces could transform the workplace and which industries and professions could be impacted by and benefit from using these new technologies. Based on different case studies discussed during the session, the speakers explored the skills that will evolve from immersive workforces, whether companies could prepare the current and future generations for this evolution, and what this may look like. During the one-hour discussion, Sofia described the challenges and implications of the metaverse identified during the Metaverse Policy Lab events and highlighted the three main areas of work in order to make this new technology accessible to all and for widespread adoption to occur. Her speech focused on the lack of “trust” and how companies and policymakers should focus on these aspects to build powerful policies that address the key areas of concern, including misinformation, harassment, and disinformation.
Overall, to make work experiences more interactive, efficient, and inclusive, all speakers agreed on the importance of being involved, having the conversation now to shape the way we work tomorrow.
