Steve Unger is completing a book on the history of regulation in telecoms and he and William Webb talk about what lessons we can learn and how these might apply to current regulatory challenges.

Key is humility, regulators often make mistakes or fail to understand all the consequences of their actions which can have impacts for decades. We agree that standardising the metaverse would be premature and that interoperability at network level is essential. But there is much in between that requires careful thought and a study of historical parallels.
