A Deep Dive into EU Approach to Space Traffic Management

On 11 July, Access Partnership Policy Manager, Aleksander Lubojemski, hosted a live virtual webinar to discuss the EU’s effort towards creating a unified regulatory framework for space sustainability. The event brought together four leading industry stakeholders to explore the importance of upcoming European Union legislation regarding space sustainability and the legal, political, and financial issues of such legislation.

Contributing to the discussion were:

  • Christoph Kautz, Head of Unit for Secure Connectivity, Space Surveillance and Applications in DG Defence Industry and Space of the European Commission
  • Bertrand de Cordoue, Head of EU & NATO Public Affairs – Defence & Space at Airbus
  • Niklas Nienaß, Member of European Parliament (Germany, Greens)
  • Kristina Nikolaus CEO & Co-Founder of OKAPI:Orbits

The engaging conversation covered the key challenges in creating EU space law, harmonising competing interests and opinions within the EU and industry, how the EU can set an international standard, and how the financial weight of a harmonised STM approach should be distributed.
