Access Alert: APEC Peru 2024

From February through March 2024, delegations from the 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies gathered at the Lima Convention Center for the First Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM1) and associated events. In conjunction with SOM1, Access Partnership had the opportunity to participate in Digital Week, further enriching the dialogue on digital policy and economic collaboration.

This initiative, adjacent to APEC, is dedicated to fostering digital transformation and the formalisation of the economy. Access Partnership was invited by the Peru Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism to speak at Digital Week, where we delivered a presentation on “Digital Permitting and E-Government Measures to Advance Formalization of the Economy”. This presentation served as part of a series of productive discussions that included topics such as artificial intelligence in emerging markets, machine learning for health, and privacy and data protection, among other pertinent subjects.

Access Partnership was joined by distinguished government officials from Indonesia, Japan, Peru, and the United States, as well as representatives from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The exchange of innovative ideas and best practices from leading experts and government officials fostered an in-depth understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the digital landscape, particularly in the areas of e-government and economic formalisation.

Looking ahead, SOM2, which will take place in Arequipa, Peru, will see the continuation of these discussions. Access Partnership anticipates the focus to be on the formalisation of e-commerce companies, leveraging artificial intelligence to accelerate e-commerce, and the digitalisation of trade processes to enhance supply chain resilience and connectivity.
