Peter Zimri supports Access Partnership’s work in broadband regulation
10 January 2025
London, UK – Access Partnership has augmented the company’s long-standing ability to deliver national policy changes and multilateral outcomes across the African continent with the addition of former ICASA Council Member and South African senior official, Peter Zimri.
Greg Francis, CEO of Access Partnership, said: “Peter’s mastery of regulatory best practice in markets that incubate innovations in broadband communications, financial services and cybersecurity allows us to serve Africa’s growing markets better than ever before – and we’ve been serving them for 25 years. In multilateral groups, no leader is better known or better respected than Peter Zimri.”
Having recently delivered a novel study on Africa’s growing ability to improve the global cybersecurity landscape in partnership with the University of Pretoria, the Centre for Human Rights and Cisco, Access Partnership is putting ambition into practice: Peter Zimri is a South African policy leader with over 30 years of extensive cross-sector international and domestic experience in telecommunication/ICT, broadcasting and postal public policy and regulatory affairs.
Peter Zimri, Senior Adviser to Access Partnership, said: “This is where regulation overlaps with geopolitics. We’re working to make sure Africa’s path is towards growth; where intellectual capital and innovation matter, we’ll take and hold the lead. Better connectivity helps inclusive digital transformation, which boosts the economy and drives growth in sectors like mining, transport, agriculture and healthcare.
Before joining Access Partnership, Peter served two four-year terms as an Executive Councillor at the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA). In this role he served as an Executive and Chairman of the Communications Regulators’ Authorities of Southern Africa (CRASA), led oversight of the country’s inaugural multiband IMT spectrum auction, and led the African Telecommunications Group (ATU) to the World Radiocommunication Conference 2019.
Access Partnership will undertake an ambitious policy agenda from January to ensure adoption of secure, trusted broadband access to cyber defence across the African content and globally.
