Intermodal Transport Data Sharing Programme

Intermodal Transport Data Sharing Programme

Access Partnership’s John Ure and Jenny Wan recently authored a report on Intermodal Transport Data Sharing Programme.

Data Trust 1.0 was designed to encourage transport operators (MTR, CityBus, KMB and OCL) to share data on arrivals and departures from Exchange Square Public Transport Interchange (PTI) as a Proof-of-Concept that data sharing is possible using a Trusted Third-Party Model that can replace the siloed model whereby each company only shares a limited amount of data with Government. Data sharing allows for data analytics to reveal travel behaviour where different modes of transport are involved  and to identify where service needs are greatest. With this information government is in a far better position to plan for a smart integrated transport system that is also greener and cleaner, less congested and serves under-served areas with new combinations of public transport, such as on-demand feeder services, pre-booked long-distance services and redesigned road systems to encourage walking and cycling. Evidence-based policymaking should make regulations for franchised services more flexible and more innovation to achieve smarter mobility.
