London, UK – As part of its Fair Tech mission, Access Partnership has released a unique, user-friendly methodology for governments to assess and track the extent to which their national AI ecosystems are ready to operationalise responsible and ethical AI.

The Responsible AI Readiness Index (RARI) enables economies to benchmark their progress against established cores of responsibility, such as privacy, accountability, and fairness. It also helps identify gaps, barriers, and areas for improvement, ensuring that strategic efforts and investments are aligned with the specific needs and capabilities of each country—be they cultural, financial, infrastructural, institutional, or organisational.

Greg Francis, CEO of Access Partnership, said: “As AI touches most of society, developing responsible AI practices is not a choice. It prompts a range of ethical and societal challenges, and accelerated adoption demands that we build regulatory frameworks to govern its deployment. With our Responsible AI Readiness Index, we aim to facilitate the integration of responsible AI into countries’ digitalisation agendas and ensure that their policy environments can move ahead with ethical AI practices.”

Drawing upon international principles, guidelines, standards, and best practices, the RARI is designed to overcome the shortcomings of existing AI readiness assessment frameworks, which often sideline responsible AI or are too complex and convoluted for practical application. As such, it has been conceptualised to support those seeking to prioritise and operationalise responsible AI.
