Advancements in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and other emerging technologies are happening in increasingly shorter cycles, changing the nature of jobs faster than before. As a result, workforces across the globe, including Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ), are faced with the urgent need to regularly upgrade their digital skills and knowhow.
To better understand the dynamics behind digital skills training, AlphaBeta, commissioned by AWS, conducted an in-depth study on the state and importance of digital skills training to meet future needs of the economy. The study surveyed employers and workers across seven APJ countries: Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Singapore. We examined the importance and level of digital skills training undertaken today, as well as the barriers faced, and actions needed to tackle them in order to unlock more training.
The study uncovers five key insights:
1. Cloud and cybersecurity skills will be the top two most demanded digital skills by employers by 2025.
2. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated the need for digital skills training.
3. 86 million workers in APJ are estimated to require digital skills training over the next year to keep pace with technological advancements.
4. However, there is a digital skills training shortfall in APJ today – although 97% of organizations see a need to train their workers on digital skills, only 29% have done so.
5. Investing in digital skills training can help organizations meet their business objectives.
