Driving Productivity Growth in Australia: Challenges and Opportunities for Digital Business and Regulation

Following our dynamic discussions on the ACCC’s marketplaces study and its report on sector-specific regulation, our panel is coming together again – this time to discuss the Productivity Commission’s recent Productivity Inquiry report. The speakers will address the importance of competitive and dynamic industries in driving productivity growth and the policy settings that will deliver these market outcomes.

The panel will discuss:

  • What policymakers should take from the Productivity Commission’s report to ensure Australian economic regulatory frameworks are fit for purpose in the 21st century.
  • The key factors to ensure Australia fosters investment and business dynamism to boost productivity growth.
  • Whether competition is declining and impacting productivity growth, and whether competition laws need reform to deal with emerging trends such as e-commerce and new technology-enabled business models.

These issues are at the core of current competition and productivity debates. It is a timely conversation as regulators in Australia and beyond are considering future frameworks for digital platforms.

The event will take the form of an expert roundtable and will include interactive participant discussions. This event is organised and supported by Access Partnership and Amazon.

Panellists:

  • Stephen King, Commissioner, Productivity Commission
  • Luke Wainscoat, Senior Economist, Houston Kemp
  • Kirsten Webb, Partner, Clayton Utz (moderator)

More speakers to be announced.
