Tech Policy Trends 2023 | The future of AI policy

AI’s evolution could spiral into a revolution over the next 12 months. With deployments already demonstrating the ability to create efficiencies across every sector of industry, countries globally are weighing the consequences of how far to let the artificial genie out of the bottle.

But despite the universality of AI’s applications, its regulatory picture remains highly fragmented. The EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act could become the first law passed by a major governing body later this year. Across the Atlantic, Congress has directed the National Institute of Standards and Technology to publish an AI Risk Management Framework that will shore up a patchwork of state and federal oversight. Jointly, the EU-US Trade and Technology Council (TTC) recently published a roadmap to promote standardisation and counter the threat posed by China.

With so much at stake, businesses need clarity on how the legal landscape is set to be reshaped over the coming months. That’s why Access Partnership has included AI’s regulatory future as one of our Tech Policy Trends for 2023.

Each year, our experts identify 10 of the biggest issues in the technology sector, leveraging our knowledge of government relations, policy analysis, and compliance and licensing to provide an inside insight on what to expect over the coming months. The report reflects our mission to lead countries to fairer tech, balancing different perspectives to drive beneficial outcomes for all.

Will other international stakeholders take up the TTC’s call for closer collaboration? Can the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act set a template for global standardisation? With studies projecting over USD 15 trillion in economic development from AI by 2030, decisions taken by governments and regulators this year will impact the global economy well into the next decade.

No single form of technology faces greater public scrutiny than AI. No company scrutinises AI’s challenges and opportunities more forensically than Access Partnership. Download our report to find out more.
