The Fair Share Debate: Allocating costs for data generation and infrastructure

On 13 June, Access Partnership CTO William Webb hosted a live edition of his Independent Thinkers on Digital podcast to explore the economic, legal, and ethical implications of the Fair Share debate. The event brought together four leading industry stakeholders to discuss who should bear the costs of maintaining the infrastructure required to process and store the vast amounts of data generated by large companies.

Joining William were:

  • Roslyn Layton, Senior Vice President, Strand Consult
  • Anna Bigot, Deputy Director of European Affairs, Bouygues Europe
  • Nina Cummins, Head of Connectivity & Access Policy – EMEA, Meta
  • Brian Williamson, Partner, Communications Chamber

This lively and informal conversation covered the potential impact of Fair Share on industry innovation, the challenges that companies and operators at the centre of this issue face, and how the timing of the current debate fits into the upcoming political timeline.
