About the Roundtable
In an age of the Internet of things (IoT), where the number of connected devices outnumbers human beings, vast volumes of data are now being collected, analyzed and used with increasing ease on a scale like never before. Yet the same ability to collect and analyze data is challenging the concept of privacy. While IoT and Big Data analysis allow businesses the opportunity to personalise their interactions with consumers by offering more context-aware products and services, the same opportunity can set businesses in direct opposition to consumers’ desire for privacy.
Does the era of IoT and Big Data necessarily have to mean erosion of individual’s ability to manage privacy? How can we balance the growing data opportunities with the potential risks and harms for individuals? Between the imperative to innovate and unlock value from data and to protect personal privacy, how can we achieve a policy approach that is accepted by all parties?
The Roundtable will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders and will review the opportunities and risks of IoT and Big Data for businesses and consumers, share policy trends in Europe, Asia and Thailand and discuss what best practices there may be to strike the balance between innovation and privacy.
