Artificial Intelligence Standards and Trade in ASEAN
Date: 25 February 2021 (Thursday)
Time: 2pm (GMT +8)
Duration: 1.5 hours
Format: Online webinar
About the Event:
As ASEAN governments and businesses warm up to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its benefits, the AI-generated impact on digital trade will be both multi-faceted and transformational: Global value chains are already being revolutionised by AI through improvements in areas such as demand forecasting, warehouse and inventory management, and delivery and transport route optimisation, while AI-supported translation services are reducing barriers to cross-border business and boosting trade flows. As regional AI capacity develops, AI-infused goods and services can boost regional trade, and AI in itself can even become an object of trade through the export of AI software and AI as a service.
The use of internationally-recognised standards helps to articulate common requirements, specification, guidelines or characteristics, giving businesses, consumers and policymakers assurance that the AI systems involved in trade processes, interactions and decisions are safe, reliable and interoperable, and thereby building trust in the technology and ensuring that AI can continue to fulfil an enabling role in digital inter- and intra- ASEAN trade.
This 90-minute session brings together experts representing government, industry and academia to discuss the opportunities, challenges and future for AI in digital trade in ASEAN. This event is jointly organised and supported by TRPC, the International Institute of Communications (IIC), and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT).
