FIA and AlphaBeta webinar on “The Future of Proteins in Asia”

Food Industry Asia (FIA) and AlphaBeta today launched “The Future of Proteins in Asia” report to help policymakers and industry leaders navigate key trends and capitalise on emerging opportunities in Asia’s rapidly evolving proteins landscape. The report takes into account key trends in protein consumption over the past two decades in the “Asia-5” (China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam), emerging trends influencing protein demand, and forecasts scenarios for growth through 2030.

The webinar event for the report was hosted by Jiang YiFan, Head of Science and Regulatory Affairs. At the webinar, AlphaBeta Associate Shivin Kohli presented the report’s key findings to industry stakeholders from government, the private sector, investors, startups, and academia. This was followed by a panel discussion with three leaders from the Asian proteins industry:

  • Justin Wang, Regional Vice President, Animal Nutrition and Health, Greater APAC, Royal DSM
  • Jeremy Hill, Chief Science and Technology Officer, Fonterra Cooperative Group and Professor, Sustainable Nutrition, Riddet Institute, Massey Institute
  • Paris Wang, Business Manager, Alternative Proteins, Cargill

Topics covered during the discussion included the future of sustainable production for traditional animal-based proteins, advancements in non-traditional proteins, and balancing nutritional and sustainability aspects of the proteins we consumed. Panelists also provided their views on key multi-stakeholder actions required for the industry to navigate its challenges and capture emerging protein opportunities in Asia.
