Japan’s Strategic AI Council recently published its plans to make progress on the G7 Hiroshima AI Process. To recap, the Hiroshima AI Process is the newest effort by G7 members to harmonise AI rules and ensure a coordinated approach to AI governance.
According to the plan, Japan will present an interim report to G7 digital ministers in September 2023 that is expected to include a draft code of conduct covering basic corporate responsibilities, disclosure mechanisms, and content management, as well as distinguishing between different AI roles (development, provision, use).
Before the final report is submitted to G7 leaders in November or December 2023, Japan also plans to consult non-G7 members, academia, and industry on 9 October at the Internet Governance Forum Kyoto 2023. Details about the forum programme are not yet available.
