The U.K. Science Minister George Freeman announced a new Plan for Space Sustainability today at the 4th Summit for Space Sustainability organised by the Secure World Foundation. The ambitious plan entails that the UK industry will work in partnership with government to develop new Space Sustainability Standards, to adopt best practices to continue benefiting from access to outer space, to improve cooperation in this fast constantly evolving field, take action to reduce space debris, enhance safety and better manage the growing satellite industry.
The UK government will also review the regulatory framework, including exploring ways of lowering insurance costs for sustainable missions; and to provide investments needed to roll out sustainable space technology on Earth.
Access Partnership is closely monitoring the developments in space sustainability, as well as the regulatory environment surrounding all new space industries. For more information, contact Ivan Suarez, Chrystel Erotokritou or Alvaro Ovejero.
