Challenges and opportunities for Singapore’s sustainable development

Challenges and opportunities for Singapore’s sustainable development

Singapore faces a range of sustainability challenges. Water constraints, energy security, carbon consciousness, land scarcity, waste generation, import dependency, ageing, and protection of biodiversity are just some of the restrictions that Singaporean policymakers and citizens must grapple with on a daily basis. However, Singaporean ingenuity has a long-standing history of turning constraints into opportunities.

Speaker of Parliament Mr. Tan Chuan-Jin highlighted his bright optimism and faith in Singapore’s innovative responses to our modern sustainability challenges at Temasek’s Youth Dialogue as a part of the Ecosperity Conversations Series at SMU in August 2018. AlphaBeta’s report on the Youth Dialogue summarises the issues Speaker Tan explored, and provides further context on implications for Singapore’s sustainable future.
