Closing the gap between theory and reality in AI

Closing the gap between theory and reality in AI

AI Policy Lab

On 16 May, Access Partnership’s AI Policy Lab held a webinar on how to bring the concept of responsible AI from theory into practice. Moderated by Senior Policy Manager Jonathan Gonzalez, the event invited four highly respected figures from the artificial intelligence sector to debate the definition of responsible AI and who should be responsible for enforcing it.

Joining Jonathan were:

  • Caitlin Corrigan, Executive Director, Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence (IEAI)
  • Colin Christie, Chair Advisory Committee, Analytics Association of the Philippines (AAP)
  • Mojca Cargo, Senior Manager at AI4I, GSMA
  • Giulia Ajmone Marsan, Director, Strategy and Partnerships, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA)

The debate was built around a series of structured questions, with audience members leaving interactive comments for further discussion before a closing Q&A. Topics ranged from skills requirements and how to align AI’s capabilities with human needs to regional factors that impact AI’s perception and whether it is possible to develop governance models that don’t impede innovation.
