Economic Impact Report: Driving digital growth in Vietnam with Google

Vietnam’s economic development journey has been impressive. From one of the world’s lowest-income countries, Vietnam has risen to become a middle-income nation in less than 40 years. However, Vietnam’s aspirations for growth do not stop here. New sources of growth need to be uncovered and harnessed to drive the nation closer towards its goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045. AI presents a promising avenue to do just this. According to our study, Vietnamese businesses stand to gain VND 1,890 trillion (USD 79.3 billion) of economic benefits in 2030 if AI-powered products and solutions are adopted. This is equivalent to almost 12% of Vietnam’s GDP in 2030.

However, harnessing AI benefits will not come easy. Vietnam will need to step up its digital education efforts to bridge the present digital skills gap by providing citizens with the necessary tools and resources to contribute meaningfully to this end. According to Access Partnership estimations, Vietnam stands to gain VND 658.6 trillion (USD 27.6 billion) of annual GDP to its economy in 2030 if it leverages tools such as personalized learning, offline and online retraining programs and online job portals.
