Access Partnership, the leading global public policy firm for the tech sector, today announced that John Micallef will join the company’s Multilateral Practice as Manager, Regulatory Engineering. With a background at both European (EUROCONTROL) and national (UK Civil Aviation Authority) aviation regulators, as well as in consultancy shaping the engineering of new aeronautical navigation and communications systems, John brings a strong background of aviation safety and standards to the practice.
For 15 years Access Partnership has supported growth in aerospace services, creating first-ever rules and frameworks that have enabled cabin, cockpit, and safety-related connectivity worldwide. Today, these services offer commercially-attractive connectivity to commercial air passengers, and hold the potential to support a host of operational and safety features that were previously limited or uneconomic. John’s experience of the ICAO Surveillance and Communications Panels, and EASA’s rulemaking groups in Europe, provide him unique insight into the regulatory development of new aviation products such as these, which will assist in guiding operators efficiently through the approvals maze.
John is no stranger to international radio spectrum matters either, having contributed to the work of World Radiocommunication Conferences and to domestic proceedings on IMT deployment adjacent to existing radar bands. “The reputation of Access Partnership is strong in many regulatory fields, and John will complement that with his aeronautical background,” Access Partnership’s Director of Technical Development, Mike Thompson, said of the appointment. “Our clients seek a total regulatory solution across all applicable fora, and John will extend our offering fully into the ICAO space.”
