ICT Sector Development in Five Central Asian Economies

The objectives of this paper are, at the request of UNESCAP, to (a) review the current state of ICT development and the investment climate for ICTs in the five Central Asian economies of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan; (b) identify practices that have led to successful and less successful ICT development in various countries; and (c) identify the socio-economic impact, including poverty reduction and gender issues, of ICTs.
