The climate crisis should be at the forefront of all we do. As part of our Sustainability Conversations op-eds, we look at why creating a climate – and nature – positive economy matters.
Climate change is the gravest existential threat to the planet and leading scientists and governments around the world have declared a climate emergency. The causes of climate change touches everything in our day to day lives – energy, industry, buildings, mobility, and agriculture to name a few.
Combatting this urgent threat has become the responsibility of global governments, businesses, and individuals alike.
The IPCC
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently released ‘Climate Change 2022: Mitigation of Climate Change’ which looked at what we can do to limit emissions from greenhouse gasses (GHGs) from entering the atmosphere. Mitigation includes the GHGs emitted from energy production and use and land use and methods to mitigate warming, for example, by carbon sinks which remove emissions from the atmosphere through land use or other mechanisms.
Below, we look at the key takeaways from the Sixth Assessment Report by the IPCC, released in April 2022.
