Telecommunications in Hong Kong
The ending of the Hong Kong Telephone Company’s (HKTC) monopoly on the provision of the domestic public switched telephone network (PSTN) marks a turning point in the history of Hong Kong’s telecommunications. From 1st July four new Fixed Telecommunications Network Services (FTNS) licences came into effect, issued to HKTC, Wharf Holding’s New T&T (Hong Kong) Ltd, Hutchison Communications Ltd and New World Telephone Ltd.
