Mike Schmitz is Director and Lead for U.S. Trade & Investment at Access Partnership, where he advises industry associations and multinational companies on U.S. trade policy, geopolitical risk, and market access strategy amid accelerating economic realignment. Based in Washington, D.C., he works at the nexus of trade, supply chains, and government engagement, guiding clients in their interactions with the Administration, Congress, and federal agencies and translating tariff negotiations and industrial policy shifts into clear commercial strategy.
Before joining Access Partnership, Mike served as Director of International Advocacy at the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP), overseeing global engagement with the United Nations, WHO, PAHO, APEC, and priority national markets. In that role, he advanced regulatory convergence, pharmaceutical quality standards, and supply chain integrity initiatives worldwide. Previously, from 2010-21, he served as a Director at a Washington, D.C.-based global government affairs and public policy firm, helping multinational companies navigate trade, market access, and global health policy across Asia and the Americas.
Mike began his career working on international trade issues at the United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) and at the U.S. Department of State. Mike holds an MPA from the London School of Economics and a BA in International Affairs from The George Washington University. In his spare time, Mike is a volunteer cellist in the Washington Adventist University orchestra.
