Enabling AI governance from principles to practice

The Opportunity

A leading tech policy-focused multilateral organisation commissioned Access Partnership to define its Ethical AI Principles and deliver a region-wide governance solution for 16 Member States.

The Solution

We developed a concise, future-proof set of Responsible AI Principles grounded in global best practice and tailored to local priorities. Our work was underpinned by two major studies: a 16-country AI governance benchmark and a deep legal analysis of rights-by-design approaches.

To turn principles into practice, we developed a sophisticated, industry-agnostic self-assessment tool called the AI Ethics Evaluator that allows developers and deployers to assess ethical AI risks across six key domains and delivers radar/heat-map insights plus tailored remediation. The tool aligns with major global standards, including UNESCO, OECD, IEEE and NIST. We also developed accompanying multimedia training and as well a guidebook for AI policy implementation for national governments.

The Impact

  • Created first human rights-focused AI risk management tool for developers and deployers
  • Tool available in all 16 Member States, reducing AI risk reviews from weeks to hours
  • Strategically launched at the Internet Governance Forum and the International AI for Good Conference
